How to safely (and cheaply) lighten hair at home?

I have natrually blonde hair, but I’ve been sick for several months and have to stay inside, and it’s starting to darken and lose a lot of it’s sheen. I use very good hair care products, but I’ve never had to dye my hair. I don’t want to, because I want it to look natrual and not be so harsh on my hair. I tried lemon juice like everyone says, and the only thing it did was make my hair feel like straw. I’ve been using diluted peroxide, but it’s starting to really break up my hair and make it frizzy, and if I don’t use it for a couple weeks my hair goes dark again. So what is a cheap at-home way to lighten hair and give it more shine, other than dyes or shampoos?

There’s nothing that will work like that. The lemon juice didn’t work because it needs the sunshine to create a chemically reaction within your strands of hair. Basically, what the lemons juice and sunshines does to your hair is a speedier version of you just hanging out in the sun and allowing the sun alone to lighten your hair to a blonde.

From the sounds of things, I think you’ve damaged your hair with your at home hair colouring kits.

Can you go to a salon? Or are you too ill?

You’re better off buying a colour and asking a friend to apply it for you. I’d stay away from your diluted peroxide kit. I’m sure your hair is much prettier without it.
